Mont-Blanc avalanche bulletin: where to read it

Mont-Blanc is massif no. 3 in Météo-France's official list, in the Northern French Alps (Haute-Savoie). Its avalanche bulletin (BERA) is on the Northern Alps page of meteofrance.com: pick Mont-Blanc on the map. Alpow shows it as published, for free.

This page gives neither today's danger level nor a summary of the bulletin: for that, read the official bulletin.

The massif, from the official source

  • Official name: Mont-Blanc.
  • Number: 3, as used by Météo-France's public API.
  • Range: Northern French Alps. Department: Haute-Savoie.
  • Outline: the one published by Météo-France, shown on the meteofrance.com map and on Alpow's map.

The French Mont-Blanc bulletin covers the French side. For a route that crosses into Switzerland or Italy, it does not replace those countries' bulletins.

Finding the bulletin

  1. Open the Northern Alps avalanche page on meteofrance.com.
  2. Pick Mont-Blanc on the map of massifs.
  3. Check the time of issue and the end of validity before reading it.

Météo-France writes the bulletin in French; Alpow does not translate it. Out of season, no bulletin is published.

Vigilance and observations are separate

Météo-France's avalanche Vigilance covers a department, here Haute-Savoie, on vigilance.meteofrance.fr. Observed, dated avalanches are listed for example on data-avalanche.org. Neither is the BERA.
