Notifications

Two notifications, two different kinds of information

Alpow sends two kinds of notifications, turned on separately: one tells you Météo-France has just published a new avalanche bulletin (BERA) for a massif you follow, the other that fresh snow is forecast at one of your resorts. Neither detects avalanches.

Why they are kept apart

The bulletin notification relays an official document: it says a bulletin is out and quotes its danger level as published, adding nothing. The fresh snow alert comes from the weather forecast Alpow computes from four models: like any forecast, it can be wrong. Alpow never merges them: a high Powder score says nothing about avalanche danger, and a snow notification is not a green light.

Neither is a proximity alert, an avalanche detection, or Météo-France's Vigilance warning, which you can check on vigilance.meteofrance.fr.

Where to set them

In the app, Me tab: "Powder alerts" for your resorts, "BERA alerts" for your massifs. iOS asks for permission the first time you turn one on; you can withdraw it at any time in Settings › Notifications › Alpow.

Alpow widgets: the Tignes powder score on the Lock Screen and "Where to ski tomorrow?" on the Home Screen.
App screenshot with demo data: the values are not real forecasts.

Neither this guide nor Alpow tells you whether a slope can be skied without risk.Alpow does not replace the official bulletin or your own judgement. In the mountains, you are responsible for your decisions.
